goal 1 - in process
OK, so you all know that at the beginning of 2007, I made a list of seven goals that I wanted to achieve, or at least be in the process of, by year's end. Well, my first goal (and the hardest in my opinion) To Live Healthier and Actively has finally come to fruition. I am making it happen.
Two weeks ago I finally joined a gym. The Planet Fitness not far from my house was offering this great special where you can get their best membership for $20 a month, sign on fee waived, and a free session with a personal trainer! And this membership includes unlimited guests (so Andy can come with me every time if he'd like to), 10% off everything at Planet Smoothie, free tanning, and more. It's a great deal.
So, I've decided to work out every morning before I go to work, and take Saturdays and Sundays off. I've been getting up at 5:30 every weekday morning and getting to the gym by 6am. And I have to say, I've been feeling a lot better even in just the last two weeks.
This past Saturday, I had my free session with the personal trainer. Holy moly did my ass get kicked! But it was great!! I felt so good afterwards. I was tired - but it was good tired. I learned so much about how the body works and how the muscles keep burning the calories and building themselves up for up to 72 hours after your workout. So, sitting in my chair at work yesterday, my muscles were still working like crazy burning the calories and building themselves up because of my Saturday morning workout. That's crazy!
I decided to sign up with the personal trainer to meet with him once a week for the next six months. I'm looking forward to seeing how much I accomplish. I don't want to be a stick. I just want to be healthy and toned. That's all I am looking for.
My trainer also gave me some nutrition information and what foods would be better choices and when not to eat carbs during my day. And I totally appreciate learning all about this. But, as Andy told me the other day, "Stop pushing yourself so hard. Focus on the working out right now, and build into the nutrition. You don't have to go crazy on this." And he's right.
So, yeah, that's an update on Goal 1.
Andy and I are leaving in a week and a half to go to Topsail Island, NC with his family again this summer. I'm so excited!!
