today - is history
Right after John Kerry conceded the election to President Bush, I was on my way to my Philosophy of World Religions class. As I was walking down towards Old Main, I saw a "Kerry/Edwards" door hanger on the street. You could tell that it had been thrown there a little while ago, and that it had been run over quite a few times as well. Seeing this made me think.
Yesterday (and today for that matter), we witnessed "the most important election of our time". We saw a country so divided by an election. We saw people chanting for Kerry and we saw people chanting for Bush. But now, just one day later - and only hours after the election was officially won - Kerry has been "thrown down and run over."
It was a pretty humbling experience to see that door hanger lying on the road. It brought to my attention the fact that my children will learn about President George W. Bush. But, I wonder if they'll ever learn about John Kerry and his passion for the presidency. I wonder if they'll ever know that it was "the most important election of our time." And I wonder if it will even matter that he did a very noble thing today.
I have never been a Kerry supporter. But watching him today, and hearing him officially concede the election, gave me a profound respect for him. Kerry could have pulled another Gore on the country and on Bush - but he didn't. Kerry was smart, wise, and noble. He did what he knew was right - right for him and right for America. And for this, I applaud John Kerry. I wouldn't change my vote from Georgie to John - but I would applaud him.
It's funny how something as small as a door hanger can get you to think about things like this. Hmm...interesting.
Prayer Requests:
* My Leanne - her back
* My cousin Mary - her stress - PRAISE - she won a free trip to the bahamas! a definite answer to prayer! this will be a great thing for her to relieve her stress
* President Bush - wisdom to lead our country
* My job search - eh - it's going nowhere
* My last month and 13 days!
peace all,
